We’re looking for a highly capable self-starter to operate as both a brand custodian and a strategic communications consultant. 

You’ll own and deliver x15’s brand, communications and content strategy - building community, engagement and desirability amongst our target audience. This will span PR and media relations, social and content, sponsorships and partnerships.

You’ll also provide guidance and strategic communications support to our portfolio of ventures, so in addition to managing x15’s positioning in market, you’ll establish strategic communications as a service to support our venture portfolio. Working closely with our venture teams at various stages of growth to help craft and develop their narrative, audience-specific messaging, and key points of difference.

You can expect to grow and lead a small team to help you achieve these objectives and will report to the Head of Brand & Marketing for x15.

In this role you will:

  • Design and implement x15’s owned, earned and paid content strategy – defining the pillars, key messages and themes we expect will fuel brand awareness and consideration
  • Own all x15 external communications – often crafting the narrative yourself. This will include prep for things like press days, analyst briefings, new venture launches, keynote speaking events, crisis comms, hosted meetups etc.
  • Manage the content production cycle coordinating media outlets, influencers, digital producers, writers, designers - whatever you need to bring your pillars to life (you’ll likely hire a social and content marketer early on but we want you to be willing and able to roll up your sleeves and execute too)
  • Lead and manage our media relations (working collaboratively with CommBank corporate comms when it makes sense) establishing an x15 and venture appropriate network of press contacts and media outlets
  • Work with ventures in a way that will provide strategic communications direction (narrative, key messages etc), and better enables network effects as you’ll have visibility across what each venture is doing in their (self-managed) awareness and PR efforts
  • Train, coach and support key spokespeople to represent x15 or their ventures in the public domain

You should have:

  • Significant experience in strategic communications, content and brand building – ideally in financial and consumer media
  • A strong understanding of the media landscape and established relationships within the startup media ecosystem
  • The ability to think strategically, problem solve creatively and execute with a love for detail – balancing both brand and commercial objectives
  • A knack for verbal and visual storytelling with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to be hands-on (ideally you’ve worked in or around startups – fintech or venture models even more desirable)
  • Strong project management, stakeholder management, and organisation skills
  • A highly collaborative style and a growth mindset
